My Story
Sam Vise recently earned her B.A. in journalism from Auburn University. Vise is currently immersed in the fast-paced world of local news as a remote freelancer and copy editor for The Observer newspaper in Opelika, Alabama. This allows her to actively engage with breaking news and diverse community stories, building on a strong foundation forged at The Auburn Plainsman, Auburn University’s esteemed student newspaper. There, she honed her reporting skills across various beats, serving as Assistant Culture Editor, culture writer and community reporter.

Before her time at Auburn, Vise attended the University of North Alabama, where she initially majored in fashion with a minor in journalism. During her time as a fashion major, Vise delved into the creative aspects of the industry, learning to sew and create visually stunning displays.

Her involvement with the university newspaper as a staff writer and volunteer photographer sparked her passion for journalism, though. Upon transferring to Auburn, she recognized the profound impact of a newsroom environment and the allure of a career in journalism. This realization led her to shift her major, solidifying her commitment to the field.

Vise's broad experience covers everything from in-depth local government proceedings to compelling community events. While she previously explored fashion and lifestyle, her time in the field has solidified her passion for general news, particularly the immediacy and impact of breaking stories. With a keen eye for detail and a knack for impactful storytelling, Vise is eager to contribute her versatile skills to a dynamic news environment and make a tangible difference through her reporting.
